Ο Ανρί Ματίς (πλήρες όνομα Henri-Emile-Benoit Matisse, 31 Δεκεμβρίου 1869 – 3 Νοεμβρίου 1954) ήταν ένας από τους σημαντικότερους Γάλλους ζωγράφους του 20ου αιώνα. Θεωρείται ιδρυτής του καλλιτεχνικού κινήματος του φωβισμού καθώς και μία από τις σημαντικότερες μορφές της μοντέρνας τέχνης.
Ο Ματίς παράγει τους πρώτους του πίνακες επηρεασμένος από τα έργα των Σεζάν, Γκωγκέν, βαν Γκογκ, αλλά και από την παραδοσιακήιαπωνική τέχνη. Η μεθοδολογία του περιλαμβάνει, σύμφωνα με τον ίδιο, αρχικά την ανεξάρτητη επεξεργασία επιμέρους στοιχείων του πίνακα και στο τελικό μόνο στάδιο την ανάμιξή τους για την παραγωγή της τελικής σύνθεσης. Η τεχνοτροπία του Ματίς είναι αυτή που χαρακτηρίζει το κίνημα των φωβιστών. Η θεματολογία του ήταν διανθισμένη συνήθως με έντονα, φωτεινά χρώματα και αποτελείται κυρίως απόπροσωπογραφίες, εσωτερικούς χώρους και θέματα νεκρής φύσης.
